Ornamental Gardener – Private Estate, Andover, Hampshire
Start Date: Flexible for the right candidate
Location: Private Rural Estate near Andover, Hampshire
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8am–5pm (with 1-hour lunch break)
Salary: £30,000–£35,000 gross per annum
About the Role
We’re looking for a passionate and detail-focused Ornamental Gardener to join the dedicated team on a beautifully maintained private estate just outside Andover. Working under the guidance of the Team Leader and Head Gardener, you’ll help care for the estate’s most formal and high-visibility garden spaces — from immaculate lawns and topiary to seasonal planting, the maze, courtyard gardens, and arrival areas.
This role would suit someone with a love of ornamental horticulture, strong attention to detail, and a genuine pride in keeping beautiful spaces looking their best all year round.
Key Responsibilities
You’ll support your team in the day-to-day care and presentation of the ornamental gardens — including regular weeding, pruning, mowing, deadheading, and seasonal planting. You’ll help manage formal borders, structured beds, feature areas and lawns, and assist with development projects and ongoing improvements.
Your work will contribute to the overall aesthetic of the estate and play a vital role in ensuring these key areas are always looking their best for residents and guests alike.
Ideal Candidate
We’d love to hear from you if you have:
- A strong background in gardening or horticulture, ideally within ornamental or formal gardens
- Excellent plant knowledge, particularly with herbaceous borders, shrubs, bulbs and seasonal planting
- Experience using a range of horticultural equipment (mowers, strimmers, hedge trimmers, etc.)
- A positive, proactive attitude and a keen eye for detail
- A valid UK driving licence
Horticultural qualifications, PA1/PA6, or machinery certifications are a bonus — but not essential for the right person.
